Joey An artist’s journey Chapter Five

Introduction

I’ve been on a three year hiatus.  Life is both glorious and filled with grief.  I lost my beloved parents in 2014.  My mother in February, and daddy in August.  Not a day goes by that I don’t cherish their memories.  I live surrounded by their art and photographic images.  I miss them so much.

Travels

If you followed my first 4 chapters, you know I live a nomadic lifestyle.  Enjoying the United States, Europe, and Africa.  I have chosen a new home and happily settling in Denver, Colorado.  The Rocky Mountain region is an artist’s Mecca for festivals, galleries, and noted talent.  I’ve joined several organizations, and had a Grand Opening on August 5th.  The fine art gallery is Artwork Network and is located in the art district on Santa Fe Drive.  The area is several blocks long with both galleries and antiques shops bordering both sides of the avenue.  The streets were blocked off and entertainers, food booths, and beverage carts hosted an estimated 30,000 participants.  The director of my gallery sized up the attendance to be 1500.  My work will be on display through the end of August.

Each weekend is a trip into the High Country.  I’ve had the pure joy of visiting Vail, Breckenridge, Aspen, Colorado Springs, and Loveland.  Many more to come and an easy destination from Denver.

Culture

Many towns in Colorado began as mining camps.  As the ore ran out and winter enthusiasts propelled themselves down the side of a mountain, the ski industry was born.  Now famous resorts such as Aspen and Vail have year round activities that draw tourists from all over the world.  The mix is a blend of sophisticated elegance and the Old West.  The shops, galleries, and boutiques offer the brand names recognized in New York, London, or Paris with a bit of Grisly Adams tossed in.  You can celebrate frontier days wearing a Chanel cowboy hat and Tiffany jewelry.  People watching is superb and being an artist, offers unlimited material.  But the best, and the grandest, is the landscapes.  Words cannot express the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains.  The sun and clouds offer a changing panorama every minute.  From the top of the Aspen gondola lift, the horizon is limitless.  The mind races and the blood soars.  I’ll always keep my brushes wet.

Social Media

As many of you know, information technology is not my forte.  I’ve decided to jump into the deep end of the pool and try my luck with computers.  I purchased an iPad and now immersed in Facebook.  Linkedin is another application (or is it called an app) that helps me stay in touch with friends and colleagues.  The whole idea is to market my art.  I’ve had the pleasure of visiting incredible galleries but social media can introduce my art work with a broader audience.  Instagram, Pinterest, I don’t know where it all ends or who is actually looking at these sites.  It boggles the mind.  So please look for my work in all the nooks and crannies.
